After serving 35 years in the United States Air Force culminating as Commander-in-Chief, Strategic Air Command, General Chain turned to a life of corporate management and directorship. His first position was Executive Vice President for Operations, Burlington Northern Railroad, where he completed his five year contract.
General Chain also served as a member of the boards of directors of: ConAgra Foods, RJR Nabisco, Nabisco Group Holdings, Kemper Insurance; and, Lead Director Northrop Grumman Corporation and Reynolds American Corporation; and, nonexecutive Chairman Thomas Group.
General Chain received his Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Denison University in 1956. He later graduated from the National War College while concurrently earning a Master’s degree in International Affairs from George Washington University. He was later awarded honorary Doctor Degrees in humane letters from Denison University; the University of Montana; and, Doane College in Nebraska.
General Chain continues to serve on a number of pro bono boards. He and his wife reside in Orlando, Florida and the Vail Valley in Colorado.
