Mr. Abrams earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the State University of New York College at Buffalo; and later went on to earn his MBA in Finance and Marketing from the University of Rochester's William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration.
His career as an entrepreneur began in the late 1980s with The Software Toolworks, a personal computer entertainment and educational software company he co-founded with his cousin. In 1988, the company went public and by 1994 it had grown to over $150 million in revenue. The company was sold to Pearson, the British publishing and media company, for $460 million in early 1994.
As an investor and advisor, Mr. Abrams began working with small technology companies providing consulting in several areas, including strategic business development. In 1999, he co-founded eUniverse, an early-stage internet company. eUniverse was later renamed Intermix and was the parent company of the social network site MySpace.
Mr. Abrams was one of the original investors in Akeena Solar, the first publicly traded integrator and installer of home and small-business solar panels in the U.S. and has been involved with several eco-friendly and socially responsible businesses.
In addition, he currently serves on several private and nonprofit boards, including the board of the Simon Graduate School of Business at the University of Rochester.
