Dr. William F. Coyro Jr. is a 1969 graduate of the University of Detroit with a Doctorate degree in Dental Surgery (DDS). He attended the University of Michigan for his undergraduate work with a major in chemistry. After graduation, he was a Lieutenant and dentist in the United States Navy from 1970 until 1972. Following the Navy, he was a dentist in private practice, investor and financier.
Dr. Coyro founded TechTeam Global, Inc. in 1979 and took the company public in 1987. He grew TechTeam from a start-up to a publicly traded global corporation with $166.6 million in revenues. TechTeam Global currently has offices throughout North America and Europe, and is traded on the NASDAQ National Market under the symbol "TEAM." Dr. Coyro was the President and CEO of TechTeam Global and also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors until 1997.
Dr. Coyro is actively involved in numerous charities and holds several public service positions. He is a member of the Dean's Advisory Board for Boston University's School of Management. He is also a member of the Science Coalition, a group of more than 400 organizations, institutions and individuals supporting federal investment in university-based research programs. He is affiliated with the President's Club of Oakland University and is a former member of the Oakland University Foundation's Board of Directors. In addition, Dr. Coyro served on the Board of Directors of the Detroit Institute for Children.
His professional affiliations include the Detroit Athletic Club, National Hispanic Business Network, The American Legion, Hispanic Economic Club of Detroit and the Economic Club of Detroit. In 1996, The Detroit Free Press and the Michigan Society of Marketing Executives honored him as "Marketing Innovator of the Year." Dr. Coyro also received the "1994 Entrepreneur of the Year" award for Michigan from Ernst & Young, LLP, Inc. and Merrill Lynch. In addition, he was named a finalist for the "2005 Entrepreneur of the Year" Award for the State of Michigan. Dr. Coyro was the recipient of the "2005 Hispanic Business Alliance Award" for excellence in business.
Under Dr. Coyro's leadership, TechTeam Global was recognized by Governor John Engler in 1993, 1996 and 1997 as one of "Michigan's Top 10 Performing Companies." In addition, the company received the "Michigan Leading Edge Technologies Award" from the Michigan Technology Council. TechTeam was ranked No.47 in 1994 and No.32 in 1995 on Business Week's "Hot Growth Companies Report." This report lists the "100 Best Small Corporations in America," as selected by Business Week magazine. TechTeam Global was also recognized in November 1994 as one of the "Best Small Companies in America" by Forbes magazine. In 1996, the Company was listed by Fortune magazine as "One of the 100 Fastest Growing Companies in America," and by Forbes magazine as "One of the Best 200 Small Companies in America."
